HSA and the CMDFA (Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship of Australia) responded to the call for help with financial donations from Australian colleagues to assist our desperately needy colleagues in Zimbabwe who have been trying to cope with the cholera epidemic there. This has developed into the project entitled 'Hope Zimbabwe' which has broader objectives.
Tanzanian Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Support Project
This project aims to assist those children who have been left as orphans through the devastation of AIDS in the country. The project runs in partnership with the Anglican Church of Tanzania. Whilst there are many groups seeking to assist orphans, this approach is an integrated approach making use of church groups such as the Mothers' Union Youth Organization in order to provide comprehensive care and support for these children. The orphans need assistance with medical support, emotional support, material support, practical support (e.g. help with housework, legal services) and support with schooling and vocational training.
This initiative has now developed a special website with an annual award for outstanding work in the work of preventing and assisting in the treatment of people with HIV. The initiative was derived from the ICMDA congress in Sydney 2006 with the input of 70 member countries.
International Christian Medical and Dental Association BursaryFund
The 14th World Congress of the ICMDA took place in Uruguay in July 2010. The bursary fund is set up to help send representatives of developing countries to the congress. Every four years there is this opportunity to give enormous encouragement to young leaders of the Christian medical and dental community. Historically, this has been a most strategic way of building up new or struggling fellowships in the home countries. Please be generous in supporting this fund. Donate.

Major development of the Kilimanjaro Rehabilitation Centre which will be a 40 bed unit with facilities for patients and training of rehabilitation workers.
“Smiles for Life” Dental project in Bangladesh –in partnership with HEED Bangladesh– completed ...BUT... a new one is on the way,
The rural people of Bangladesh are among the poorest of the poor. This excellent, well thought-out primary dental health care project has the potential to be a model for dental health care throughout the whole country. It focuses on improving dental health at grassroots level, using local resources and minimal input from fully trained dentists.
International Christian Medical and Dental Association BursaryFund – completed but note that a new one has started for the 14th World Conference in Uruguay
The “Health and Hope”, 13th World ICMDA congress was held in Sydney in July 2006 and was a great success. It included four pre-congress seminars. “Hope for Those with HIV” attracted a significant amount of interest and attention particularly from those in developing countries but few of them could afford to attend the congress without assistance. HealthServe Australia was able to sponsor 53 medical workers from 14 developing countries to attend, to learn and to share experiences in an international setting on vital subjects that would assist them in their ongoing professional development.
Through this project Dr Msey in Tanzania upgraded his expertise in community health to better serve his community.
