Help Haiti Appeal
Dear
friends,
You
will no doubt have been shocked to hear of the earthquake disaster in Haiti and
may have already helped by donating to the cause of helping the victims of this
tragedy.
While
HealthServe Australia would not normally get involved in natural disasters
on the other side of the globe as it concentrates on the needs
of closer neighbors, as this is such a tragedy, we have decided to lend out
official support.
The
United Nations has described it as the greatest human tragedy they have faced
seen since the UN was formed post WW2, and it is in a country that is the
poorest in the western world.
We
have therefore commenced an appeal, where we will channel any donations made
through the “ACT for PEACE” fund of the National Council of Churches of
Australia (NCCA). This fund is the one that runs the annual Christmas bowl
appeal. NCCA writes that partners on the ground are carrying out immediate
assessments of damage and the needs of survivors. Our partners are sending a
rapid support team to identify the needs of the victims and mount an effective
response.
Act
for Peace’s partners in Haiti are very experienced in emergency response work.
The need is massive. Partners on the ground have been identifying assessments of
damage and needs of survivors. All the basic infrastructures of the area are
unserviceable. People urgently need food, water, blankets, shelter and medical
supplies. Helpers are supporting the provisions of water and sanitation
materials, hygiene kits, and psychosocial treatment for the victims of this
tragedy and seeking to mount an effective response in what is a logistical
nightmare.
If
you have not already given to this appeal, please help by donating through our
HealthServe Australia Overseas Aid Fund tax deductible "Help Haiti" appeal on our donations page or post your donation to our national
office at PO Box 290, Eastwood, 2122.
If
you let us know your name and contact details a tax- deductible receipt for your
donation we will send you a receipt.
May
God bless you for caring in this way,
Cliff
